Support for School Fundraiser

We were contacted recently by St Gabriel’s CE Primary School in Blackburn. Its year 6 pupils were planning to put on a school production, which would also include activities to raise funds for microphone headsets, lighting, and building a new school garden.

We were happy to help and duly supplied some of our Ring Bake doughnuts to help with the children’s efforts. These were sold and used as raffle prizes, helping the school towards its target.

Where Do You Eat Yours?

Quite often, we receive messages and kind reviews from customers who tell us that they’ve enjoyed our doughnuts, but it’s not so often that people tell us where they’ve been enjoying them.

But this week, we got an email from Nathan, who told us that he’d packed one of our Strawberry Jam Ring Bakes for a recent kayaking trip to Windermere. He wrote to say that the Strawberry flavoured Ring Bakes were his favourite, and he even sent us a couple of pictures. (Thanks very much, Nathan. We’re really glad you had a good time.)

We always love to get customer feedback, so if you’ve taken our doughnuts on an unusual trip or adventure, please do let us know.

Support for Charity Sports Event

On 16 August, we were proud to donate a supply of Classic Mini Rings to the Old Boltonians Ladies Football Club as part of its efforts to raise funds for one of their members, Mich. She is currently battling cancer and the team is committed to supporting her on her road to recovery. The match itself was held on Sunday 18th August at Atherton Town FC. It was between Old Boltonians and Mich’s Allstars, a team made up of players with whom Mich has played over the years. Mich selected her team and was their manager on the day. We were happy to donate the Mini Ring Doughnuts for use as raffle prizes and for sale to the spectators. The event was well attended and the funds that it raised will help to ease the financial strains on Mich while she completes her chemotherapy.

Make UK Manufacturing Awards

We are pleased to announce that Simply Doughnuts has been named as a regional finalist in the Make UK Manufacturing Awards 2024.

We made the shortlist in the Innovation category, based on our efforts to extend the shelf-lives of fresh doughnuts. Since our formation in 2012, we have been working to produce longer-lasting products that reduce food waste and minimise the associated commercial risks faced by retailers.

The winners will be announced at the regional awards dinner, which will take place on the evening of Thursday, 24 October at Crow Wood Hotel & Spa Resort in Burnley.

Supporting Local Schools

On 6 July, St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Darwen held a summer fun day in an effort to raise funds for new iPads and outdoor play equipment. The school’s PTFA had reached out to us ahead of the event to ask if we could donate some doughnuts to assist in these efforts, and we were happy to agree. We provided a number of Classic Mini Ring doughnuts, which were included in a very successful raffle and bake sale, which raised £240. More of the doughnuts were used the following Friday, when the school hosted a summer disco. The PFTA members noted that the event was very well attended and said that it had been a brilliant day with a great atmosphere. In all, the event raised an estimated £1700.

Congratulations to Shiraz Master from the whole team at Simply Doughnuts. Shiraz was awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list on 15 June 2024. The award cites his “services to the promotion of food and drink, to business and to philanthropy.”

Our chair, Mike Wilson, passed on his own congratulations, saying “I’ve known and worked with Shiraz for many years and I’m delighted for him. He’s hard-working, innovative, ambitious and an active supporter of community projects. He’s a great role model for the leaders of British businesses. This honour is thoroughly deserved.”

Shown below are two letters of congratulation: one from the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mrs Amanda Parker JP, and one from Tamara Finkelstein CB, Permanent Secretary at Defra.

Family Charity ‘Doughnation’

Daytrippers (Bolton) is a volunteer-led charity that supports families that have children with disabilities. It has been organising accessible trips since 2003. When one of its volunteers contacted us to ask if we would support a fund-raising event – its “21st Birthday Ball” – we were only too happy to help.

We donated a supply of Classic Mini Ring doughnuts that were put to several different uses. Individual doughnuts were used as party favours for those who attended the evening event, while complete tubs were sold to raise funds. A further 16 packs were given to members of the dance troupe as a thank you for entertaining guests, and others will be sold from the kitchen over the coming days.

The event, which celebrated the organisation’s 21st anniversary, took place on 15 June and, as a result of sales, donations and auctions, the organisers raised around £1650.

More details about Daytrippers, its activities and events can be found on its website: https://www.daytrippersbolton.org.uk.

Walking Group “Doughnation”

In May, we supplied some of our individually wrapped Ring Bake doughnuts to a North West walking group, hoping to gather some useful feedback. The group members took them on a 14km walk from Elterwater in the Lake District.

The doughnuts made a welcome addition to the walkers’ packed lunches and the feedback was generally very good. It included positive comments about both their taste and texture. None of the members had tried the Ring Bakes before and many were surprised to discover how soft they were. (The light structure is the result of a unique process that entails steaming and then baking.)

The individual packaging was also considered an attractive feature, making the products convenient and well suited for inclusion in rucksacks, picnics and packed lunches.
